Fertility Preservation (Egg Freezing)

Who should consider egg freezing?

Egg freezing allows women to preserve their fertility for the future by storing eggs at their current quality. It is worth considering if you are not yet ready for pregnancy but wish to keep your options open, if you are about to undergo medical treatment (such as chemotherapy) that may affect your fertility, or if you have a condition associated with early decline in ovarian reserve.

How does the process work?

The process is similar to the first stages of IVF. Hormone injections stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs over approximately 10–14 days. The eggs are then collected under light sedation and frozen using a fast-freeze technique called vitrification. When you are ready to use them, the eggs are warmed, fertilised, and the resulting embryo transferred to the uterus.
