Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

A simple, minimally invasive fertility treatment where prepared sperm are placed directly in the uterus to improve the chance of conception.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

What is IUI and who is it suitable for?

IUI is a straightforward procedure in which a prepared sperm sample is placed directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation, improving the chances of the sperm reaching the egg. It is performed in the clinic in just a few minutes and does not require anaesthesia. IUI may be recommended for couples with unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility, or those using donor sperm.

What is the difference between IUI and IVF?

With IUI, fertilisation takes place inside the body. With IVF, eggs are collected from the ovaries and fertilised in the laboratory. IUI is a simpler, less invasive option that is often tried before proceeding to IVF.
